Autumn with Rhubarb & Hare

I LOVE Autumn.

It is unequivocally my favourite season of the year.

After a summer of entertaining and long days bbq-ing in the garden, I am ready for the comfort of Autumn.

I love all of it.

Brisk walks through brown fields, still under blue skies but with that delicious chill and the tang of woodsmoke in the air.  The piles of leaves slowly gathering along country lanes whilst the hedgerows burst into life, rich with bright red berries and strands of blackberries are popping up everywhere.  (We’ve just discovered some in the corner of our garden which my two children are delightedly picking.  Not many have made it into the house for pies yet! Whilst their little wheelbarrow is full of windfall apples, that fall faster than we can pick or cook them at the moment) 

The return to jumpers and warm throws on the sofa so we can cosy up of an evening in front of the fire.  The gentle glow of candlelight as we watch a family movie tucked up indoors on a Saturday evening.  I also enjoy how our cooking changes from salads to delicious stews, pies and crumbles - hearty, warming food that feeds the soul as well as the body!
